We've had plenty of different types of activity mats and this one is one of the better ones, but like most, this one is a little too low. We lay our baby down and for the first few months he can't reach anything so the sights and sounds are perfect to keep his attention for diaper changes, but as soon as his curiosity peaks, his arms are reaching for anything hanging and toys start coming off. Maybe it's just that our little guy is too strong, but I wish the cross-arch was higher so toys were still out of his reach. 4 stars for design and great colorful fun, but docked one star for low hanging fruit.

There is just so much to do on this play mat. My daughter still calms down instantly when she sees and/or hears the star going off. You can put the things on the bars or on the mat and baby will love playing. There is a mirror that she loves to stare into and talk. It deffinatly made tummy time alot more fun.

As you can see from the photo, there is a LOT for a baby to look at on this mat! We had this one for my mom's house, and I'm glad we kept it there and not for every day use. It seemed my son would get pretty overwhelmed while on the mat not being able to just focus on one thing as something else would quickly catch his eye. This can be looked at as both a positive and a negative, it certainly keeps the child's mind engaged and offers great variety, but if your child is a nosepoke like mine is, the options were just overwhelming. I have found this to be true of many Baby Einstein products - they load their toys with colors and gadgets for the kids, and while some may like it, mine was just way too overwhelmed with them all in the beginning. Now that he is 10 months old, he is able to focus on just one thing for an extended period of time so we like the B.E. products now because we are able to offer him a great variety throughout the day.
