This is the required insert for newborns in the ErgoBaby carrier. My daughter loved to be swaddled and the insert was perfect for that and making her nice and snug in the carrier. What is also great is that when you fold down the top it gives them extra next support. The cons are that it is an additional step that can be a hassle while out in public, it adds extra weight to the carrier and it definitely makes both baby and wearer warm.
This goes along with the Ergo baby carrier and is for small infants. Since my newborn was a preemie - she was too small for baby bjorn where you have to be I think 8 or more pounds? This carrier goes down to 5 pounds with this shown insert. It was very cozy for her and she relaxed and fit very well. Only downside - in the summer it was too too warm.
I love my Ergo sport carrier and this insert allowed me to use it since my baby was 1 week old. She was born at 8 lbs 10 oz and was pretty long (21 inches I think) so i only got to use it for about three months but that is really the maximum intended time of use. It is bulky and not easy to carry unless you wear it in the carrier sans baby. Regardless it was great and we got plenty of use from it.
This insert allows you to carry a much smaller baby in your Ergo than you'd be able to without it. It worked okay for me from the time my son was about 2 weeks until around 8 weeks old. I would froggy his little legs and bundle him in the insert before putting him in my Ergo. He seemed comfortable and often fell asleep. The only problem I had was the fact that the insert is super bulky. When I used it, it changed the ergonomics of the carrier to the point where my center of gravity was thrown off balance. I give this product three stars because, while it is functional and fulfills it's intended purpose, I think Ergo needs to either redesign the insert so that it fits inside the carrier better or they just need to redesign the carrier itself so that it will accomodate a smaller infant. Other companies have done this successfully, so it is possible to have a carrier that you can use for a tiny infant or a large toddler without needing an extra insert.
This insert was fantastic to use with our Ergo Baby Carrier so that we could use it with our daughter when she was an infant; only downside is that even with a baby born small (6 lbs 3 oz) they grow so quick that she outgrew it in less than 6 months. Definitely worth it for using the carrier traveling / hiking though!
