The Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer is a non-invasive system that can easily be used for newborns, infants, children or adults. Temperature is taken by gently placing the thermometer on the forehead while it measures the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling from the environment. This design allows you to take the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery and uses advanced infrared technology.

I received one of these for my baby shower and I love it! The only downside is sometimes babies don't want to sit still long enough and want I grab for it. I like that it I much faster than under arm thermometers and pretty easy to use as long as you read the directions.

I actually bought this thermometer when my husband had a fever. The doctor's office we went to used them and recommended it to us. It worked decent for him. A couple weeks later my son had a fever. Even when sick, he would not keep still for the reading. He wanted it and kept reaching for it. It took multiple attempts and each time it came back with a different reading. I finally switched to an ear thermometer.

I have to disagree with some of these reviews, we find the Exergen to be *the most* accurate (we read the directions...) and it does not bother my son when we take his temp at all. Very quick, easy results. A simple swipe across the forehead = happy baby!

Pricey but very helpful. Works fast and easily for all family members. very similar to ones used by pediatricians. Simpler technique than ear thermometers. Requires holding down the button while sweeping the unit across the forehead. Easy to use, easy to read digital output.

I give this thermometer points for fun and ease of use but I'm not convinced that it is very accurate. I will take my daughters temperature 3 separate times and each reading will come out different from the last.

Not sure how accurate this thermometer is but it's quick and convenient. I use it for everyone in the family. I usually take the temperature 3 times and use the average because you might get a different reading each time.

THis is not very easy to use and somewhat inaccurate when you need a good reading on a temperature. really not good for small babies, did not use this for long as I did not trust it.

Pros: Easy to use, doesn't bother the sick child to take his temperature, was recommended by my physician.

Cons: Not reliable! This thermometer gave wide ranges of temperature (2-3 degrees) when taking a reading minutes apart. Those 2-3 degrees matter when you are trying to figure out if your 6 month old's temperature is 101 or 104!

Would not recommend.

After going through 5, yes 5 different thermometers I have finally found one I LOVE! This thermometer is quick, easy to use and gets an accurate reading without all the fuss. Even my neighbors come to borrow it, a hit with all!

I bought this over an ear thermometer and was very disappointed. It never gives you the same reading. The directions say that you have to swipe it across the forehead then tap it behind the ear. Which in my opinion becomes to be more of a pain in the neck. You have to hold the button in the whole time that you are scanning accross the forehead and tapping it behind the ear. Every reading I tried was a different reading every time. Which to me it's important to have an accurate reading because of it can be harmful to a child. Definitely would recommend this product.

We use this as the primary thermometer in our house.
We upgraded from a mercury and didn't even bother to waste money on one that takes temperatures through the ear, what child wants you sticking things in their ear when they don't feel good?
With one quick swipe on the forehead you have an accurate reading, it's so easy to use!
I've compared the temp readings on this with our other thermometers and they all read the same so even though I was once skeptical I highly recommend upgrading to these.

Perfect for teething time when there is a little bit of a fever. This is my trusty little sidekick when my little one gets sick. Love this product!
