We really found this beneficial when we first brought our daughter home...she was used to being warm, and those cold wipes were just so harsh on her bottom! Having a wipe warmer helped her adjust to life outside the womb a little easier.
However, once you get past the first month, I really don't think a wipe warmer is needed. I think we wasted more wipes because they got dried out, than what we used wiping her bottom!
I recieved this wipe warmer as a gift at my baby shower and having a premie in the dead of winter, I was grateful! I am still using the warmer now even though spring is here. You have to add a little water in order to keep the wipes moist but they keep the wipes very warm. You have to use the wipe right away after taking it out of the warmer or it will begin to get chilly. The warmer is very easy to refill and it even has a light so you can see if the wipes are getting low while in the dark.
When my first child was born I thought the people who bought wipes warmers were absolute suckers. Boy was I wrong. For a late November baby, the wipes warmer made a huge difference. The shock of cold wipes on a newborns bottom would case my son to scream and howl. After I bought the warmer, we were both much happier.
It does not give off enough light to be a night light but it does let you know when it is running low. I had no trouble with wipes drying out (I use Huggies wipes primarily) or with keeping it filled. I would only say I wished the cord was a touch longer. Highly functional and cost effective.
This wipe warmer was a gift at my first child's baby shower. I struggled with keeping the thing refilled, then keeping the wipes from drying out, and finally, when in use, seeing very little difference in the actual temp by the time I got the wipe to baby's bottom. As a seasoned mom now, I would pass on this, and any wipes warmer. It is simply not worth the hassle.
We had one of these in my son's room over the winter time and used it along with Pampers Sensitive wipes (generally *very* moist) We found about half way through the pack that we had put in there, we needed to add some water because the wipes had all but dried up. Also, when you pull the wipe out of the warmer, yes, it is warm. But by the time that you use it on your baby, it's chilly. This was a product that now, as a more experienced mom, I would have probably passed on. If you have the money and space, go for it, but you won't be missing out on it too much if you pass.
We were given this wipe warmer as a gift and do not really use it, so in our home it is a dust collector. We just decided it wasn't really a necessity and one more thing taking up space on the changing table. The few times we did use it, it worked well. The night light is not very bright, we still opted for a dim light in the room. It did keep the wipes a nice temperature and they seemed to stay moist and did not brown. Ultimately a product that we found more of an un-necessary luxury and more of a hassle than just using room temp wipes.
LOVE this warmer, keeps wipes nice and perfectly warmer for little ones bum. Light isn't very bright but we have a night light in from so we use that to help. Hold a whole package of wipes but it's better to put enough for a few days and reap after so they don't dry out. I do add a drop of water on each side to keep extra moist but love this warmer and found on sale at target.
