Cloud B Sleep Sheep Plush Sound Machine with Four Soothing Sounds

Cloud B Sleep Sheep Plush Sound Machine with Four Soothing Sounds

The sleep sheep was a gift from grandma to our son. I honestly have no idea if the white noise does anything to help our son sleep- we really struggle with sleeping. It definitely helps mommy and daddy fall asleep!

As far as white noise, I think the rainfall and ocean sounds are really the best. The whale noises are a little strange sounding and the heartbeat is terrible. The automatic shutoff function is nice, particularly when, as I mentioned above, mommy and daddy have been lulled to sleep by the sheep. But beware! Do not place the sleep sheep anywhere near a hard surface if it is in bed with you! Many a night we have been startled out of sleep when one of us knocked the sheep into the headboard, activating the heartbeat sound (always that terrifying heartbeat noise). What a annoyance to find that you've been awoken not by your child's hunger, but by the deafening bwomp...bwomp of the sheep, all the while whisper-cursing as you struggle to turn the sheep off before the noise awakens your little one.

This thing was such a big help for us. Even tho we had a mild winter, we used it all winter long. Before I started using it, we used to struggle putting our son in a big bulky pram suit. He would always get way too hot whenever we got to the store and it was difficult to regulate his temperature. Inevitably he would have a big crying fit while we rushed to get him out of his suit. Once we started using the bundle me, I felt comfortable putting him in the carseat without all the bulky outdoor clothing on- then when we got to our destination, I could just unzip him and wouldn't have to worry about him getting too hot!

Received this at my baby shower and I love that it keeps all the bottle parts together when washing. The holes are just right so that smaller pump pieces can be washed in here as well.

Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller

We bought this travel system based on the Baby Bargain's review. It had high ratings for both price and safety, which seemed like a win-win for us.

But then we tried to put it in our car....more on that in a bit.

Overall, the stroller is ok. It maneuvers nicely and the adjustable handle height makes it easy for both me and my husband to push. However, if you're using the stroller with the infant car seat, the storage area underneath is basically inaccessible. Unless you're using it for vinyl record shopping, bringing home a small pizza, a trip to the magazine stand. My point is that you only have about two inches of open space to get at the under stroller storage, unless you completely remove the car seat and push the reclining seat upright. I don't want to have to do that every time I need the diaper bag or my purse.

The stroller is somewhat easy to open and close once you get the trick of it, but once it's closed it's a beast. This would be fine if we had a giant SUV or minivan, but we live in a big city where having a small car is more convenient for us. When closed, this stroller takes up the entire trunk area- and our car's trunk is actually quite large. The stroller is not light either, so I feel like I have to hoist it up into the trunk like a farmer tossing around hay bales. The infant car seat is also very heavy and becomes heavier with each step I climb up to our apartment. Another drawback for small car owners: with the infant seat in the back seat, we can no longer push our front seat back far enough for adults to sit comfortably.

One last little pet peeve- the suspension isn't great. It's probably just a personal thing for us, but we like to take walks around the neighborhood. We discovered too late that sidewalks and the cup holder on the stroller do not mix. The second we hit any sort of crack in the sidewalk, whatever drink is in the cup holder goes everywhere.

Naturepedic No-Compromise Mattress

I love this mattress!

When I found out I was pregnant the chemical composition of everyday products suddenly became of paramount importance to me. Our infants sleep at least 16 hours a day (at least they're supposed to!), do you really want them spending that much time on vinyl and complex chemicals that off-gas toxic fumes around their newly developing bodies?

When I first started shopping for a crib mattress it seemed like all the best organic and non-toxic options were at least $500 or more. That was beyond my budget. There were much cheaper mattresses out there, but they all seemed to have at least one toxic component. Naturepedic mattresses fall right in between- a little pricier than most mattresses at your local big box stores, but reasonable enough that I felt comfortable spending the extra money for peace of mind.

The no-compromise mattress is a great mattress for people who are concerned about raising their children free of as many toxic products as possible. Not only are the mattresses filled with organic cotton, the company has developed a non-toxic and all natural fire retardant. The icing on this cake is the food-grade polyethylene waterproof cover! No worries that all the safe content on the inside of this mattress will be undone by a harsh vinyl cover!

It's very difficult to find information on the composition of many name brand mattresses and they usually contain toxic flame retardants, vinyl covers or chemical foam fillers. Recent studies have linked many of these chemicals to autism and SIDS. Naturepedic, on the other hand is very upfront about the composition of their mattresses and rightly so- they have nothing to hide!

Many of the name brand mattresses found at your local big box stores have "organic" options, but then cover the mattress in vinyl, which off-gases phthalates, defeating the purpose of having natural fibers on the inside! To me, Naturepedic makes a fantastic, non-toxic mattress that is reasonably priced. It fits perfectly in our crib and is firm with a little give. You can buy cheaper mattresses, but you'll be saving money at the expense of your baby's health.

Expecta Lipil DHA Supplement

I started taking these about half way through my pregnancy. I had been told by my Bradley instructor about the benefits of DHA and didn't think it would hurt to take them. I chose this brand first because it was available everywhere.

I was lucky enough to find these BOGO but I wasn't happy with the fact that there was basically a one month supply in the box (or even less depending on how many you take- I saw one study that recommended 500mg of DHA). I also ended up discarding a couple of the pills, due to some weird discolorations in some of the pills.

I found it incredibly difficult to find recommendations for DHA supplements but eventually settled on Nordic Naturals, which had twice the amount of DHA in each pill. Also the Lipil DHA comes from non-fish sources, which may be important to some people. I had read that your body is better able to process DHA in fish oil, so I wanted to switch to a fish sourced DHA supplement.
